March 6, 2008

Glasgow Rangers came very close to the UEFA Cup quarter-finals after beating Werder Bremen 2:0 on Thursday.

Gabon international Daniel Cousin scored first goal seconds before the end of first half-time, with a good help of Werder’s goalkeeper Tim Wiese.

Wiese was partially guilty for second Rangers’ goal spilting a ball, after Cousin’s shot shot, and letting Steven Davis to scored for final 2:0.

Rangers’ boss Walter Smith said after game was finished that he is very delighted with the result, and that first goal came in right time, and was a big plus for second-half.

Thomas Schaaf, Bremen’s coach refused to blame his goalkeeper for the loss, saying that they work as a team, so the whole team has lost a game.

This was a special night for Rangers captain Barry Ferguson, who is now a holder of Scottish record in number of UEFA competition played games.
